ENABLING BOLD, ITALICS, AND UNDERLINING IN VALDOCS 1.1X In order for Valdocs to do the various fonts and underlining on the screen it must use the graphics mode and literally draw the characters for that font on the screen. But drawing a character in graphics mode is slower than just letting the QX computer put a character on the display in text mode. In the later versions of Valdocs 1.1x, it was possible to speed up the screen output by toggling the Editor into text mode. However, the text mode cannot display Bold, Italics, or Underlining. ASSUMPTIONS: This section assumes that you are using one of the later versions of Valdocs 1.1x and that your experience level is already at Expert in order to be able to access the Quirks menu in step 1. 1. If there is a small blinking cursor on the screen of the Editor, it is in text mode and cannot draw the other fonts. Select the Quirks menu with CTRL-Q. This is done by holding down the CTRL key and typing the "Q" key. 2. Select the option uick display. This option is a toggle, so you are turning the text mode (uick display) off so that the graphics mode is on. Your screen is now toggled back to graphics mode and you will have a big solid cursor to indicate that. Now the Editor can draw the Bold, Italics, and Underline as needed. If you find that the Editor still will not do Bold, Italics, or Underlining, after performing this procedure, then you should follow the instructions in the section "Resetting the CMOS Clock RAM for Valdocs" to get the Bold, Italics, and Underlining operating again.
