Virtual disks of TRS-80 "Copy Protected Software"

This page contains software that was distributed on "copy protected disks" or special Model 1/III dual booting disks.

Copy protected disks were designed to prevent the user from making copies of the software and giving them to other users, PIRACY. These disks could not be copied by normal DOS backup programs. Special programs were developed later to copy these disks, like "Super Utility" and "CopyCat".

Some distribution disks were dual booting. These disks had a Model1 boot sector and a Model III boot sector. This allowed the same disk to boot on the Model 1 and Model III. Some of these dual boot disks were "copy protected", like "Forbidden City", while others were not, like "Starfighter". While some of these dual boot disks were not "copy protected" they still could not be copied by standard backup programs and copies made using a program like "SUPERZAP" were no longer dual boot since the dual density boot track would still require a special programs to create.

These virtual disks require at least version 5.00 of the emulator to run.

This utility will check out your virtual disk drives to be sure they are working ok.
Seriously, this program could be copied to a real floppy disk (using Super Utility) for use
on a real Model III or 4.
The emulator supports all floppy features tested by this utility and all tests will
pass without error on v5.0 or higher of the Model III/4 emulator.
