The following new features are available in both the model1s.zip speed slowdown supplement and the model1-g.zip release of my TRS-80 Model I Emulator: * 1:1 speed matching Run MODEL1S.EXE instead of MODEL1.EXE if you want the emulator to run at the same speed as the original Model I, regardless of the speed of your computer. (Note: this will only prevent the emulator from going too fast. If your computer is too slow or the speed slider was set too low, MODEL1S.EXE will not run any faster than MODEL1.EXE did.) Parameters of MODEL1S.EXE are the same as MODEL1.EXE. Users of the discontinued registered version of the emulator (Version 3.01r) can also use this feature by copying only MODEL1S.EXE into the directory with their registered version of MODEL1.EXE. (Do NOT copy any other files from the model1-g.zip package into the directory.) * Fix for potential lock-up Certain computers would experience lock-ups if the emulator was run multiple times in a single session. (e.g. the computer would lock up the third time the emulator was run after the computer had been last reset.) This was caused by a conflict between the RS-232 and your PC's operating system. When running MODEL1S.EXE (see above) you can disable the RS-232 emulation. This is done by creating a file in the same directory as the emulator called "DISABLE.COM". This can be done, e.g., by typing: ECHO >DISABLE.COM at the MS-DOS prompt. To re-enable the RS-232 emulation, you should delete DISABLE.COM. e.g.: DEL DISABLE.COM This feature will only work with MODEL1S.EXE (the speed regulated version). It does not work with MODEL1.EXE (the unregulated version). * This revised version of MODEL1S.EXE improves Windows XP compatibility. - - - NOTE: for those curious, MODEL1S.EXE is not an emulator itself. Rather it is a program which loads MODEL1.EXE (any version 3.x release) and patches it in memory so that it runs at the speed of an original. Optionally, it also disables the RS-232 IRQ if the file "DISABLE.COM" exists. MODEL1S.EXE cannot be run standalone; it needs MODEL1.EXE in the same directory with it.
