Yes, but there's already a nice CMOS chip out there, in a friendly
40-pin DIP package.  It's even more than a decade on-topic here.  (the
date code on the ones I have is 8001).

(googling 'IM6100' probably doesn't bring up as many snazzy websites,
though)
