Shoe boxes work fine too.  And they stack quite nicely.  Make sure you
keep those dessicant packs that come with the shoes in there too.  I
wouldn't worry about static as much as EM fields.  Keep'em away from
anything made of steel/iron, CRT's, speakers, power lines, etc.  You can
use a compass to see if there's any danger around. :-)
