I meant systems that would load and run PC-DOS right out of the box, 
i.e. "PC compatible" systems.  The Grid would fall under that 
heading, but not many of the others--and certainly not the NEC APC.

The 8086 was attractive for the Grid because it came in a low-power 
CMOS version--the 80c88 came along a bit later.
