Doesn't the "home computer" (not the Honeywell "kitchen computer") go 
back at least as far as 1968?  Wasn't there an outfit that marketed a 
box with two tape drives and a display in it for home use?  Not a 
computer, per se, but an information storage and retrieval device.  A 
name like "Viacon"?  My brain has too many dustbunnies to remember 
much more, but I recall reading about it a long time ago.

Perhaps one of the digital archaeologists on the list remembers.
