Or any of the other official languages of India. In particular,
Bangalore (Bengaluru) is located in the state of Karnataka, where
Kannada is the official language. Even a literate person there is
likely to know only Kannada and English (which may have the status of
co-official language in that state, but I do not know).
But Sridhar's point cannot be overstated: Simple literacy is much
more important than computers of any ilk in rural India.
