Sure, but a nice beefy transformer will give you many decades of 
service without problems.  High-ampere 5V transformers shouldn't be 
uncommon, as many 5v rectifier filaments (such as the 5U4) were 
pretty hungry (the 5U4 is rated at 3 amps).
