It wouldn't ALWAYS work as a drop-in replacement for an 8088.
In the Gavilan, for example.
There is a one page note describing some trivial hardware mods that were
needed.  I no longer have a copy; Uncle Roger got all of my Gavilan stuff
(3 or 4 totes)
