Indeed. I was perhaps a little unlucky in that the only 9000/300 I've got 
is a 9000/340 (and I've got far too many of those :-)). and that does 
seem to have an ASIC on the mainboard next to the CPU. It's been a long 
time since I've been inside one, though.
