I remember being rather fascinated with those when I was about 9 years old. At
the same time I had the contrary sentiment that it was a terrible waste of
components (a pointless sentiment, the components were probably rejects and
floor sweepings).

I could swear there was a yellow rabbit in the series, but I don't see it in
the offerings there.
