There ahve been various designes for these in magazines and on the web 
over the years. They don't look too hard to build.

Nor would I. But you can get lithium coin cells with PCB pins (which you 
can solder to), or coil cell holders. I would use the latter if there was 
space, it makes future repairs easier...
