DEC/Compaq XP1000 can't see keyboard - ideas?

It's a good point, I had checked but didn't think to mention it -- when 
I type "SHOW CONSOLE" it prints out "console        graphics".  Came set 
that way. I assume I've got console output on the serial port because of 
the issue with the keyboard not being detected...
