I beleive what you are looking for are called 'spacers'. In particular, 
you want spacers with tapped (threaded) holes in each end.

I can think of a couple of possibilites...

1) Get some rigid plastic tube from a model shop, and use self-tapping 
screws through the holes in the board, and screwed into the ends of the tube.

2) Get some hexagonal metal rod, cut to length, drill and tap holes in 
the ends. This is a lot easier to do if you have access to a lathe...
