IIRC, the 7090 came out about year before the 7070.  36-bit binary; 
32K words standard configuration.  It was the "scientific" model of 
the line.

The gummint made some strange choices.  The Air Force bought a bunch 
of 7080's then eventually replaced them with (IIRC) S/370s running in 
emulation mode.  Outside of the Air Force, I don't think I ever saw 
another 7080.  But 7090/94s were pretty plentiful and were being used 
well into the 70's.

DIdn't the IRS have a bunch 7070's?
