laptops and 5.25 inch floppy drives?

That Grid 1040 I sold on ePay had such an interface.  However, the 
hard drive interface was like nothing I'd ever seen before or since.  
I wonder how many modern laptop/notebooks even have the FDC 
controller inside.

As I mentioned, the Backpack can be talked to (if you've got the 
right driver) at low level--it has a NSC 8477, a bit of SRAM and a 
microcontroller in it that does nothing but relay the commands and 
data to the 8477.
