Alignment disks, and the creation thereof

I'd argue that it is far easier to build a drum data storage device, yet 
nobody has done it.  "It doesn't seem too hard..." is easy to say until 
you try it.

Sure, it is possible, but it is moot if nobody is motivated enough to 
actually do it.
