We are a bit short on steel mills, but the headline closure a year ago was the Port Talbot
blast furnaces - reputedly to be replaced by electric arc furnaces
The Scunthorpe blast furnaces are now on the same trajectory, but again both of those are
primary iron production capabilities.
The Port Talbot steel mill continues to roll product from imported slab. The Scunthorpe
mill rolls rail (track) and other sections. The Sheffield area continues to manufacture
specialist steels and big forgings. Also, the UK has a number of neither open nor shut
plate mills. And, this is a very partial list.

Do the British actually make anything anymore?
They closed the last steel mill in Wales recently. Are there any steel mills remaining
anywhere in UK?
