I gather then that the most obvious way of checking is to look at the disk
drive?  Were there any markings on the case (like a "+") to distinguish the
two?
 
  Yes, the IIc+ is plainly marked "Apple IIC Plus" in the upper left
corner.  I *think* the IIc+ is also smaller than the IIc but I'm not sure.
