I use a Mac IIci, up and running 24/7 14 months.
What you need is called a router, but any old PC or Mac running a unix
variant with a couple network cards should work fine too. I use a Mac IIci
running NetBSD. Check out this web site for details, and email me if you
need some network cards etc. cheap.
