Probably a local mod. The VT52s I used (at DEC)
all had the "grind"
sound. The "beep" did not arrive until the VT100.
Is the grind-sound of the VT52 unique to that model? did it appear on
any other DEC terminals or did any other manufacturers not have a
"beep" sound?
Anyone know why DEC chose to use the grind-noise? it was a singularly
unpleasant sound, it had the effect of not wanting to trigger it.
