That's a great question. I had only started using PCs in 1993, so I
don't
have an opinion. But for me personally I think W95 was the beginning
of the
gradual end of my use of DOS outside of Windows.
I was using OS/2 Warp 5 by then. It ran Windoze programs faster than
3.22 because it had a 32-bit graphics engine, while the Windoze
graphics engine was still 16-bit code.
I remember a quip in one of the trade rags that "Using Windows NT was
like having a child help you."
