what I miss is cmspipelines. pipeline on steriods.
lables, fan streams to
multiple named pipes, collect named pipes in elsewhere.
Someone wrote a UNIX implementation of this. I forget its name,
but some duckduckgoing should turn it up.
I downloaded and compiled it and played with it a little bit. It's
a fascinating bit of code, but I didn't have any time to investigate
it further. From my minimal reading of the documentation, it looked
very powreful and flexible in what it could do.
