I find `cu' the easiest to use, e.g.:
$ cu -l /dev/ttyUSB1 -s 115200 dir
$ cu -l /dev/ttyS1 -s 9600 dir
and that's it. If you need to disable hw flow control or modem control:
$ stty -F /dev/ttyUSB1 clocal -crtscts
$ stty -F /dev/ttyS1 clocal -crtscts
respectively, *after* starting `cu'.
