August 3, 2010 – Wired.com story

Since today is the anniversary date of the TRS-80 launch, wired.com has done a story which is on their front page today. The article is here. Wish they would have consulted with me first, since they mis-attribute the historical accounts to me when I didn’t say them (lord knows who did). I am embarrased I didn’t realize it was the anniversary though :)

  1. For me the worst was saying that “Trash-80″ was a loving term (it was purely derisive). The cassette wasn’t built-in, must have been confusing it with the PET. Never seen someone use TRS-100 and TRS-200 to refer to the Model 100 and Model 200, either. All-in-all the typical rate of journalistic accuracy.

I started working for RS in early September 1977 (needed spending money for college), so I had a brand-spanking new Model 1 with which to experiment. As peripherals came on line, we had them at the store. My beloved Model 4D went over the rainbow a few years ago, but I am glad to see the anniversary is at least being recognized.

And yes, I have joined the emulator world along with lots of other folks. Windows 7 just ain’t for the average guy/gal.

And the page they link to is probably the worst example of formatting that can be found on the site. For some reason the hard carriage returns are still scattered throughout the text. I think the entire rest of the site looks better than the text on that page. But, ah, whatever, hopefully it will drive more people into their basements and attics before and after visiting here.
